DANCERS OF GIRONA,
UNITED AGAINST CANCER
On July 27 and 28, 2017, the charity galas Dancers of Girona, United Against Cancer were celebrated. These galas hold a special place for us, as their achievement and success represent the antecedent and birthplace of the festival Girona en Moviment.
Different professional dancers from the province of Girona danced together for the first time with the desire to raise funds for the Foundation Oncolliga Girona. The result was two dance galas with diverse styles ranging from classical ballet to belly dance to ballroom. The artists of these galas are currently working in Catalonia and abroad, in renowned companies such as Hamburg Ballet, Gauthier Dance and the Nova Bydgoszcz Opera, and performed with other dancers of their respective companies.
The promoter, David Rodríguez, was very satisfied with the event and the public’s response: "Organising the gala has been a very enriching process because the dancers have given their all and shown a lot of interest and will, especially considering that everyone is involved voluntarily. It has been a unique experience for all, a meeting between Catalan artists who unfortunately do not have many opportunities to dance at home."
This magical night of dance was presented by the charismatic actor and playwright Martí Peraferrer, and also had the privilege of presenting the Esbart Fontcoberta of Banyoles as a guest folk dance group. The event raised over 8,000 euros that were destined to the projects of Foundation Oncolliga Girona, such as wig services and the psychological attention of cancer patients and their relatives.
The burning desire of the Girona en Moviement team continues to be contributing their grain of sand in the construction, through the art of dance, of a society that is increasingly tolerant and dedicated.
